  1. photoshop is one of the best software for photo manipulation. You can find free tutorials for doing just about anything with it on the internet, so you don’t really need any books.

  2. As a beginner, the best thing to do is try it before you buy it. There are 30 day trials available for programs like Corel and Photoshop. The best, though, is free. I would try GIMP. It is very similar to Photoshop, but free. Also, you should check out tutorials online, these will give you instructions on how to use various tools in the program. Nothing but practice will help you develop a style and technique for digital art, so it will only take time. If you can, you can try to take a class or two in Computer Graphics or Graphic Design, courses by these names are specifically for people interested in digital art and will focus on tools like Photoshop and Corel.

    Best of luck!
